Ed Golson Outdoor Education

What is the purpose of this website?

It has become increasingly evident that outdoor environmental education is both very important and minimal in many of our schools.  The lack of the necessary resources for students to become educated stewards of the environment may not readily be available in all of our schools.  It has been the task of a special group of people to create such a resource

A CD/website is the new tool available to you.  This CD/website is to be used before or after taking a trip to the Ed Golson Nature Park in Bay City, Michigan.  By visiting the Park, students and teachers will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the plants and animals inhabiting the Nature Park and in the Saginaw Bay Watershed area.

The Park has a smooth, flat, blacktopped surface that is an easy loop to walk.  On the park site are:  port-a-potties, an outdoor gazebo, and you will find yourself within feet of the Saginaw River.  If you can’t visit the Nature Park, a Virtual Tour is available.

On the CD/website you will also find a section on:  geology, ecology, cells, glossary, and recycling – why and where.

It is our hope that by combining classroom and field trip experiences, students will gain a more complete understanding of where they live and how all the factors are interconnected.
