what are spiders?

Are spiders insects?

Believe it or not, spiders and ticks are not insects. They may look similar to insects, but they are different. They both belong to the larger phylum called Arthropoda, which they share with many other types of creatures. Spiders belong to the class Arachnida, while insects are part of the class Insecta. Like insects, spiders and ticks are invertebrates with a hard exoskeleton for protection. While insects have three body segments and 6 legs, spiders and other arachnids have 2 body segments and 8 legs. Also, while most insects have wings of some sort, spiders never have wings.
